Natural, Effective and Safe… What pain relief should be!shutterstock_31695892

Can you imagine living each day in chronic, agonizing pain, with nothing to provide relief and no hope for a pain free future? And while it is bad enough to suffer this pain in a joint, such as a knee or ankle, imagine chronic pain of the neck or back. There is little wonder it begins to effect almost every areas of a person’s life.

Chronic pain can lead to many ongoing issues, not just with the ability to cope with constant, severe pain in certain parts of the body, but also with a person’s quality of life.  Often people attempt to manage their pain by taking over-the counter or prescription medications such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), whcih are among the most commonly used medications in the United States. Available in prescription strength and over-the-counter, NSAIDs reduce inflammation and pain by interfering with your body’s production of chemicals called prostaglandins. Some of the most commonly used NSAIDs include aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, ketoprofen and celecoxib. Although the medications can numb the pain, they do nothing to address the root cause of the condition, whether it is arthritis or headaches.  But even worse is that taking NSAIDs may increase your risk of serious medical problems, some of which may be life-threatening.  A short list of adverse effects include ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding, heart attack, stroke and kidney disease.   No matter what, simply blocking the pain signal is not the answer.

Another common treatment to reduce inflammation and pain is the use of steroidal medications, such as cortisone.  Unfortunately the use of steroid medications come with a long list of possible risks as well:  cartilage and tendon destruction, a decrease in immunity, high blood sugar, stomach ulcers, arthritis of the hips, cataracts, thinning of the skin, easy bruising, weight gain, puffiness of the face, elevation of blood pressure, cataract formation, thinning of the bones, and a rare but serious form of damage to large joints (avascular necrosis) and increased appetite.
